Experience an enhanced level of detail and precise, immersive three-dimensional sound with the KEF Q50a Dolby Atmos 3D Sound Effect Speaker. It accurately reflects Dolby Atmos audio by utilising ceiling reflection and boasts ultra-wide dispersion capabilities.

Flexible Surround with Dolby Atmos

To provide a truly immersive cinema experience, the Q50a speaker harnesses the power of Uni-Q technology. This advanced technology fully unlocks the potential of Dolby Atmos, delivering a complete surround sound experience that envelops you in remarkable audio.

Designed for Q Series Home Theatre Systems, the Q50a Dolby Atmos-Enabled Surround Speaker is specifically crafted to complement Q Series home theatre systems. It incorporates a state-of-the-art Uni-Q driver array and cutting-edge technology to ensure impressive dynamics and pristine audio reproduction.

Enhanced Dolby Atmos Height Effects

Integrating the Q50a into your Q Series home theatre setup enhances the immersive Dolby Atmos height effects. Additionally, the speaker provides the flexibility of wall-mounting options, allowing you to create a superior surround sound experience. With its Damped Tweeter Loading Tube, the Q50a delivers intricate and authentic high-frequency audio, adding depth and realism to your listening experience. Furthermore, its sleek design seamlessly blends into any interior setting, maintaining a visually appealing setup.

What is Dolby Atmos

Unlike traditional surround systems that primarily deliver sound horizontally, Dolby Atmos revolutionises the audio experience by incorporating sound from all directions, including verticality. By faithfully reproducing the movement of each sound across three dimensions, Dolby Atmos creates a truly immersive and realistic acoustic environment. This advanced technology ensures that every individual sound is precisely located and moves in relation to the listener, resulting in an uncanny, exhilarating, and captivating experience. Whether it's the thrill of an action-packed scene or the enjoyment of a lighthearted moment, Dolby Atmos evokes a range of emotions while maintaining a profound sense of immersion.

Dolby Atmos

How does Dolby Atmos work?

Dolby Atmos sets itself apart from channel-based home theatre systems with its exceptional flexibility and adaptability. When a Dolby Atmos stream is sent to a compatible A/V receiver, the receiver intelligently processes the object-based audio and precisely reproduces it through the specific speaker configuration of your home theatre. This meticulous rendering ensures that you experience the audio exactly as intended by the filmmakers. Dolby Atmos is capable of accommodating a variety of speaker setups, allowing you to achieve a fully immersive effect with just seven KEF speakers.

What do you need for Dolby Atmos?

To bring the immersive Dolby Atmos experience to your home, you'll need an A/V receiver or pre-processor that supports Dolby Atmos decoding and playback. This essential component enables you to enjoy Dolby Atmos content from different sources, including Blu-ray disc players, game consoles, and streaming services. To ensure optimal performance, make sure your device is set to bitstream output with secondary audio disabled.

To complete your Dolby Atmos setup, KEF offers two options. You can choose to install Ci Series flush-mount speakers in your ceiling, providing a seamless integration that blends with your decor. Alternatively, you have the option of adding the impressive KEF Q50a up-firing Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker module to your existing front and rear satellite speakers. Whichever route you select, you can expect an elevated cinematic experience that enhances your enjoyment of films.

Q50a Dolby Atmos-enabled Speakers

Positioned above your existing floorstanding or bookshelf home theatre speakers, KEF's new Q50a Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers have been meticulously engineered to create an immersive audio experience. Understanding how the human brain perceives sound, KEF's engineers have developed a method to direct the sound upwards, allowing it to be reflected by the ceiling and replicate the vertical dimension found in Dolby Atmos recordings.

Designed to seamlessly integrate both aesthetically and acoustically with the Q Series range, the Q50a features a closed-box design inspired by the revolutionary KEF Blade. Its Uni-Q driver array comprises a sophisticated 25 mm (1-inch) tweeter placed at the centre of a 130 mm (5.25-inch) bass/mid-driver, complemented by KEF's 'tangerine' waveguide that optimises dispersion. This combination results in exceptional dynamics, precise and fast midrange response, and clean audio reproduction.

Moreover, thanks to the identical speaker footprint, no additional space is required when incorporating the Q50a into your existing setup.

Dolby Atmos from Ceiling

Ci Series In-Ceiling Speakers

For a truly immersive Dolby Atmos experience resembling a cinema, an alternative option is to incorporate two or four of KEF's Ci Series in-ceiling speakers into your existing home theatre setup. These speakers are discreet, easy to install, and feature the same point source Uni-Q array with a 'tangerine' waveguide.

Your choice of Ci Series speaker will depend on the size of the area and your power handling requirements. The Ci160QR model includes a 19 mm (0.75-inch) vented tweeter paired with a 160 mm (6.5-inch) bass/mid-driver. On the other hand, the Ci200QR model utilises a 25 mm (1-inch) vented tweeter combined with a larger 200 mm (8-inch) bass/mid-driver, providing extended low-frequency performance. For even more robust bass response, the high-output Ci200RR-THX, with THX Ultra2 approval, features a 38 mm (1.5-inch) vented tweeter and a 200 mm (8-inch) bass/mid-driver equipped with a substantial magnet assembly.

Furthermore, all of these speakers incorporate KEF's Ultra-thin Bezel (UTB) design, ensuring a practically flush installation with minimal visual impact on the ceiling.

Whichever option you choose, you will elevate your home theatre enjoyment to a whole new level. Prepare for heightened emotions, intensified physical sensations, and a deeper connection with the content on your screen. It's a more complete and immersive experience, precisely as the director intended.
